Music lovers, we’re back! After a year and a half of waiting, live music is back in full swing. While July may have provided a peek of what’s to come, August is the first month in eighteen to feature a full roster of nightly entertainment in Metro Detroit. Support your favorite local bands and national touring acts alike with this comprehensive guide to August’s concert calendar.
Chris Stapleton: All-American Road Show, DTE Energy Music Theatre
A songwriter at heart, Stapleton’s melodies can be found interwoven throughout massive swaths of Nashville’s country-pop output. But live, all attention shifts to the unmistakable soul and grit of his genre-defying voice. Few, if any country crossover artists can even come close to the vocal mastery Stapleton showcases on a nightly basis. Fortunately, Metro Detroiters will have two opportunities to catch the show and experience it for themselves.
Originally planned for last year, then rescheduled again in recents months, Detroiters will finally get their chance to witness these bonafied stadium rock legends in uncharted territory. While Comerica Park may be home to the city’s favorite big cats, it will take an appearance from Axl Rose and Slash to officially welcome Detroit to the jungle.
Jason Mraz, Meadow Brook Amphitheatre
Hella Mega Tour, Green Day/Fall Out Boy/Weezer, Comerica Park
It’s a 90s kid’s dream come true. On August 10, pop-punk icons descended upon deep center field for an epic night of early thousands hits and teen angst. For those who grew up with these bands, the fact that they’ll be all together on the same night is almost too much to handle. Consider it a gift for making it through a year and a half without a concert.
Christian Scott, Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre
New Orleans-born phenom brings his brand of “Stretch Music” to the riverfront on August 11. Known for defying genre limitations, Christian Scott proves the power of music as a vehicle for expression and social change.
Dave Matthews Band, DTE Energy Music Theatre
Handgrenades ‘After Hours’ Album Release Show + Mac Saturn, Bryan Hugo Iglesias
Up-and-coming Detroit rockers Handgrenades celebrate the release of their forthcoming album, “After Hours,” at The Magic Stick. Joining them is another hot local act, Mac Saturn, who expect to release new music in the coming year.
